A shady Visitor on a shady night

My family and I were starting to get around for bed. It was about 10:13 p.m, dark out, and rainy.  I was tired and fell right asleep......woke up to the sound of my sister getting dressed, it was around 10:50 pm now,  "Whats up?" I ask as she pulls a sock over her foot,  "Something has bitten the foot off of one of the ducks."  I sit up straight,   "Oh my.....my rabbits! are they okay?!"  I got a jacket on and ran out side, the rain was getting harder and harder.  Both of my brothers and parents were gathered around the ducks cage.  I heard a duck screaming.  Peaking over their shoulders I saw the poor half dead duck, promptly turning away and talking to myself.  My rabbits who I had tucked under the same pine tree the ducks were under were fine.  My dad called for a flash light, he was going to find out what did this.  The spotlight was dead, the good flashlights could not be found,  The 10-22 shells were lost.  Why can't anything go right at a time like this?  Dad started to get angry,  my brother Connor yells, "I see it!" He had found the dull light ans was flashing it above our heads.  Two green eyes shone from behind a masked face.....a raccoon.  At this point the rain was pounding on our backs and the dark figure in the tree was hard to see.  Dad pulled the van up on a slope in the yard and shone the high beams up into the tree.  I never thought that this would come to pulling the van up, breaking out glow stick, and shouldering the 12 g.  After lots of fussing, yelling and finding, my dad finely raised the gun....and Bang!  That was the end of this bandits life.  By the time I snuggles back in bed with a satisfied grin it was 1:30 am.  What a night!  The moral to this story is 'Being prepared' is always a good idea.-Rachel
